A hard fought draw against a physical and cultured U18 side.An early thunderbolt from Abi gave us the lead, but the game bounced back and forth from there, with a flukey cross/shot from Maxim looping into the net, and a deflection from Taige’s intense pressing dropping in too. We went in at half time 3-2 up but they blasted in a free kick in the second half and we couldn’t find the winner, despite throwing everything forward in the final ten minutes. The draw doesn’t help with the cup group, but even if we don’t play that final game next week, it’s been an excellent first season in the top division - finishing third, and beating/matching several U18 teams in the cups. (Only narrowly losing to one on penalties). PR 8.5

A monster of a team performance. No subs, against a big, strong, older team who had beaten the Prem division winners 3-1 last week. Lots of talking and directing, intense pressing and tackling - including a bit of streetwise, tactical tackling to slow down their breakaways 😉. Good to see us do that when needed - nobody comes to our home ground and bullies us! Too much quality to name a MotM today, as I’d call pretty much every player as an 8 or 9. But the three who really stood out were Abi, Maxim and Santi - the key battlers who drove us forward, broke up their attacks, and kept the game on our terms. 💪 PR: 10

A strong performance against the league division leaders, but they got a soft goal from a slight error at the back, and we just couldn’t break them down to get the equaliser. There was hardly anything between the teams, though. A solid progression from the 7-2 defeat against the same team a few weeks ago. Lots of positives. Hugely impressed with MotM Christian, whose intensity and strength almost won us an equaliser. Anton had one of his best games in defence - same with Kye in midfield. And every member of the team played well and worked hard for each other. It’s one of those losses that doesn’t feel like a loss. No comfort, I know, but we take the performance over the result. The boys were alot more focused going into this game and it made a difference to their performance. Kaarlo got his first goal in a long time to give us the lead and then We pushed on and finished the half 2-0 up. Dom was a constant threat down the left and he tore up their whole defence. He played some brilliant square balls from the by line which got us to 3-0. We then got a 4th which the ref gave, although their keeper ran into one of his own players and hurt himself so the ref chalked it off. Then one of their players went a bit crazy and scored 2 cracking goals and we had a passage of flakey play. Cometh the hour cometh Dom, he picked the ball up and ran past their whole defence and scored with his left foot. Amazing goal and he put the game to bed. A big result and a massive performance that shows the strength of our team spirit and culture. The first half was a bit flat and we never quite got into our rhythm, with some loose passing and lazy pressing. But with a system change and reshuffle, we looked like a different team in the second half - intense, moving the ball quicker, always dangerous in the attacking third. We turned it around thanks to Maxim’s powerful close-range finish, Christian’s instinctive shot (deflected but still his debut goal!) and an outstanding MotM performance from Alex. They just couldn’t deal with us - and we should have had more goals. A superb performance to end a tough league season. Depending on other results, we could finish as high as third in our first season in the top division. 👏👏 PR 9.0

A disappointing end to the season, after the last few weeks we've had. A bit of a lacklustre performance from the Vs. Although not playing that well, the boys went 3-0 up at half time. Two lucky goals and a worldie free kick levelled the game. The boys need to focus on playing the basics and moving the ball up and down the field instead of the long balls. It was a comfortable first half, and we dominated the play with our intensity and energy. Four goals up at half time, thanks to an instinctive chipped finish from Alex, driven shots from Taige and Tom, and Rashardo’s cross/shot… 🤔 But then, they pulled one back from a squared ball which had *definitely* gone out, and stand-in keeper Sach was (correctly) sent off for a last-man foul. Then we had to play the last half-hour with ten men and Maxim in goal. But… We really showed our character and team togetherness when our backs were against the wall. 💪 Tom shoring things up at CB, Anton (MotM) and Josh battling tirelessly to deny them space and time to threaten the goal, and a big-hearted performance from our improvised midfield to make sure we were still threatening on the break. They got a couple back, but then Rashardo broke their spirit with a second goal, ending it at 5-3. That secures us a guaranteed fourth place in our first season in the top division. If we can pick up the three points in our final league game next week, there’s still a chance of third. PR 7.5

Solid team performance from the boys. Each player did his bit and carried out what the coaches had asked of them. Back 4 solid, a special mention for Cory who was asked to step in at centre back and had a faultless game. Aiden saved a penalty and over all a very very positive attitude towards the game that they got thier just rewards. Abi, Mustafa and Tom superb at breaking up play and launching attacks from midfield. Rashardo MotM for his intensity and workrate. Jamel excellent with workrate up front and some crucial tracking back, also combining well to set Alex up for the third goal. And - a nod to captain fantastic Sachin, who kept up the aggression and passion, and showed great intelligence to shift our formation around when they started to get some joy in the midfield. Pleasing, commanding performance from the V’s with each and every player doing their bit for the team and playing for each other. The defence looked solid covering and sweeping up anything HSM tried to throw at them. The midfield adapted well and picked up the 1st and 2nd balls, made challenges and played some very good football along the ground, opening up HSM. The score could have been double, with chance after chance being created. Bit of controversy over the last goal, a long range free kick from Cory, fumbled by the keeper, not sure if over the line and, Zain making sure it went it, so I’m not going to give it to either of them unless they sort in out between themselves, as I didn’t see it! The front two bagged 8 goals between them, with some excellent interplay between Zain and Jack. A great result against a decent side. Abi and Tom doing the dirty work in the centre, and a terrific defensive performance where I thought we worked really well as a unit - including a vocal Max. Alex is growing into the forward role with every game, and I thought he was excellent today - a real handful, good on the ball, smart movement. Won a penalty, scored a goal, should have been given a second - from a shot which clearly nudged the inside of the crossbar and bounced out. No VAR at this level, though. 😐 Awesome attacking play from Kye - great dead ball delivery, a constant influence on our creative play, and helping himself to a goal and converting the penalty.
